World Information:
I apologize in advance if this looks like it was written by a gorilla.
The Mass Effect series is set in the 2180's, in a future where humanity has developed their technology to the point where space travel is commonplace and chilling with aliens across the galaxy is perfectly normal. Traveling between galaxies is made fast as shit through the help of mass relays. The mass relays are a bunch of bigass machines networked together throughout different systems, capable of transporting ships from one side of the galaxy to a mass relay in another system. They're kind of a big deal. Otherwise it could take decades, even lifetimes to travel from one location to another.
And since we're on the topic of technology and ships and shit, all the neato space technology is based around a rare (and totally fictional) material called Element Zero (aka eezo). When an electrical current is run through said rare/fictional element, it effects the mass of an object/person/whatever, hence the term Mass Effect.
Commander Shepard, the badass main character, has to save the galaxy from the reapers, a race of sentient machines trying to wipe out all life in the galaxy. In order to do so, he/she has to convince pretty much everyone in the galaxy to pull their heads out of their asses and get their shit together to defend against the reapers. In Mass Effect 1 specifically (since that's where I'm pulling the good Captain from), Shepard is taxed by the council (after a whole lot of convincing on Shep's part) to take down Saren Arterius, a rouge turian Spectre agent. Saren went and got himself indoctrinated by the reaper Sovereign. As a result of Sovereign's influence, Saren believed that serving the reapers was the only way to save the galaxy; fighting back would be futile. He ends up forming an alliance with the geth and causes a ruckus. Shepard pulls a Luffy and rounds up an unusual yet effective group of allies to stop Saren. (No skeleton musician, unfortunately.)
A few of the most influential species in the Mass Effect universe are the humans, salarians, turians, and asari . As I am apping a salarian I figured it would be best to focus on them appwise + some extra shit that is probably somewhat important to the universe as a whole.
Like Humans. Humans are the babies of the galaxy, and only recently joined the ranks of space faring races after discovering an old Prothean data cache on Mars in 2148. They tangled with the turians (an event known as the First Contact War, as humans call it) before the Citadel Council stepped in and basically told them to calm their tits. Ever since then the human race has been growing and developing on the galactic front at an almost alarming rate. They've proven quick to adapt and strive to further develop their technology. Following the events of Mass Effect, they even scored themselves a seat on the Citadel Council thanks in no small part to Shepard.
As far as humans go, there are two prominent groups on the galactic front. The Systems Alliance and Cerberus.
The Systems Alliance is backed by Earth's most powerful nations and represents Earth as well as humanity's colonies. They are responsible for exploration and general military shit. Still young on the galactic front, humanity's quick adaptation and stubbornness has made them stand out, gaining them an embassy on the Citadel within a short period of time.
Considered a terrorist organization by the Alliance and pretty much everyone in general, Cerberus is a pro-human paramilitary group led by by some mysterious assclown that calls himself the Illusive Man. Cerberus believes that humanity deserves more than the rest of the galaxy is willing to dish out to them and is of the opinion that the Alliance is a bunch of princesses that play by the Council's rules too much. They are willing to do whatever they deem necessary to give humanity a leg up on the galactic front, even if it isn't exactly legal.
Citadel Council: The Citadel Council is made up of a representative from the asari, turians, salarians, and recently humans. They seem to only exist to cockblock Shepard at every turn. That said, the Council is in charge of governing galactic law, settling disputes, and all that kind political mumbo jumbo. Failing that, they send their Spectres out to do their dirty work.
Special Tactics and Reconnaissance (aka SPECTRES): Structurally based on the STG, the Spectres are agents that take orders directly from the Council and have the authority to tell everyone else to go fuck their faces. They operate above the law and have the authority to do whatever it takes to complete a mission, regardless of the methods employed.
SALARIANS: The salarians are a race of warm-blooded amphibians native to the planet Sur'Kesh. Due to their hyperactive metabolism, they tend to do just about everything faster than your average human, for example. They talk, think, and act at light speed (well okay that's an exaggeration but still), and require only an hour or two of sleep every day. Salarians are egg layers, and only fertilized eggs result in female offspring. Due to social rules, only a fraction of eggs are fertilized, resulting in the females being outnumbered by the males by 90%.
Salarians are well known for their scientific and technological advancements. Because of their crazy fast metabolism, they are always on the go, inventing, creating, modifying, developing tons of new shit. They are known for developing the genophage for use against the krogans during the Krogan Rebellions*, and modifying it in the 2180's.
+Salarian Special Tasks Group (STG)
The salarian military in general isn't terribly large compared to the other council species. When it comes to brute strength, evolution more or less gave the salarians the proverbial finger. You're not likely to find a salarian cage fighter. Thus, the STG tends to lean heavily towards espionage, counter-terrorism, sabotage, assassination, and preemptive strikes, operating in independent cells. In general, it's just safe to assume any salarian knows more than he's letting on. Captain Kirrahe himself is a member of STG, and has been in charge of numerous missions.
+The Salarian Union
The salarian government is known as the Salarian Union. The union has been compared to the Earth's Medieval Europe, the government being made up of fiefdoms, baronies, duchies, planets, and colony clusters. Apparently the salarian words for these are impossible to pronounce so that's just what humans have nicknamed them. Anyway. Each area is controlled by a Dalatrass, a matriarchal head-of-household.
*STUFF ABOUT KROGANS since they're kind of a big deal where the salarians are concerned: The krogan are a race of large reptilian bipeds, and regard themselves as a race of proud warriors. The Krogan Rebellions took place after they defeated the rachni during the Rachni Wars (Bunch of giant alien bugs decided to go nuts and the salarians technologically uplifted the krogan and were all "hey krogans help us kill these bugs ok"). With the rachni threat gone, the krogan began multiplying and expanding, and ultimately became a threat to the galaxy. Since the krogans were now going apeshit with the whole multiplying rapidly and spreading out to other planets and colonies thing and threatening the galaxy, the salarians decided to neuter them, more or less. The Genpophage was a biological weapon developed by the salarians to do just that. It was deployed by the turians against the krogan during the Krogan Rebellion. It's purpose was to severely reduce the Krogan's numbers by infecting the species with a genetic mutation that prevented fetuses from fully developing, ending in stillbirth (if the fetus even developed that far).
Personality:
A member of the Salarian STG (specifically the 3rd Infiltration Regiment), Kirrahe is a no-bullshit badass with a penchant for line holding. As tends to be the case with most salarians, he is highly intelligent; his talents tending more toward military tactics than science. He has proven himself to be a brilliant strategist, able to find a way to make the biggest possible impact with extremely limited resources and manpower. His collaboration with Commander Shepard and his small group on Virmire to combat Saren is a good example.
Kirrahe's bravery and steadfast dedication inspire his men. Even with the odds stacked drastically against them, Kirrahe is able to rally them with rousing speeches, often using the term "hold the line". Call it a catch phrase. Though he hates to lose his subordinates in battle, he understands that a good leader must be prepared to make sacrifices for the greater good. That said, he won't send his men to their death if he doesn't believe in the cause; he'll find another way to carry out a mission, or make one.
Generally not a fan of the back-stabbity nature of politics, Kirrahe is unlikely to comply with orders that he feels are unjust. Case in point; While on Sur'Kesh in Mass Effect 3, he tells Commander Shepard that he would happily help him/her retake Earth from the Reapers regardless of what the politicians decide. Since Dalatrass Linron was being a giant bitch about the genophage cure, it was unlikely that the salarian politicians would want to get involved with reclaiming Earth, much less fighting the reapers. While it occurs at a later canon point than the one I'm apping him from, I feel he wouldn't have changed much between the three year gap between games (mostly because Bioware never bothered to feed us any extra information regarding Kirrahe).
Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitations:
As an STG Captain, Kirrahe has had extensive training with various types of weapons and combat tactics. He's a natural leader, and has a talent for pulling rousing speeches straight out of his cloaca (this may or may not be an actual ability). Based on a scene in Mass Effect 3 in which he uncloaks right after taking a shot from Kai Leng that had been intended for the salarian counselor (this scene), I'm loosely basing his omni-tool ability set after ME3 multiplayer's salarian infiltrator. He'll be able to cloak for limited periods of time, use energy drain. PROXIMITY MINES
- tactical cloak - user becomes invisible for a limited amount of time
- energy drain - used to inflict damage and to strip an enemy of it's shields while buffering the user's
- proximity mines - small sticky mine, explodes when enemies come into range
Salarians weren't exactly built for physical combat. They're scrawny little bags of skin and cartilage, and thus are easily squished. A close encounter with a krogan or even a batarian would probably leave Kirrahe snapped in half. Though trained in multiple forms of combat, there's only so much Kirrahe can do against something huge and in his face.
No special powers over here, other than a knack for line holding. He's pretty average as far as salarians go, so I doubt there would be a reason for power limiting.
Inventory:
-Omni-tool
-Standard issue STG armor every salarian in the universe seems to wear the same style so whatever
-Elanus Risk Control Hammer sniper rifle X
-Elanus Risk Control Striker pistol X
(Both found here. Decided on these since you can buy an armory license for Elanus Risk Control Services from Commander Rentola on Virmire. SO, it's probably safe to assume they were using the same equipment. That's right Kirrahe's weapons are totally outdated >8U)

While Kirrahe was usually stubborn about admitting a parameter shift, he sure as hell couldn't deny it this time. This wasn't Sur'Kesh, Rentola and the rest of his team were nowhere to be found, and this charming batarian that had been hounding him since he stepped off the shuttle was quickly getting on his last nerve. If this didn't qualify as a parameter shift, he didn't know what would.
His first priority was to find out where he was and why he was here. The 'where' came easily enough; the batarian mentioned it every second sentence. Somehow, Kirrahe had ended up on Omega, despite boarding a shuttle bound for Sur'Kesh. It was strange to say the least, but dwelling on it wouldn't get him any answers. The 'why' would have to be discovered later, the batarian was less than helpful and only seemed to be harassing Kirrahe for protection money or something. Delightful.
Second priority: Ditch the batarian. Not difficult. Cloaking while said batarian was distracted by something else and weaving through the crowd to a nice secluded corner was relatively simple compared to Kirrahe's usual business.
His priority now was to find out what happened to his team. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be as simple. He knew too little about the situation to go around announcing that he was looking for a group of STG operatives. Something like that would no doubt come back around and bite him in the ass. Thus, his rank and the fact that he's with the STG at all wouldn't be made public knowledge, at least not until he had a better understanding of the situation. It would probably make locating his men more difficult, assuming they were here at all, but at least he wouldn't be putting them or himself into unnecessary danger. The last thing he wanted to deal with was becoming a target. For whom, he had no idea, but he wasn't about to test his luck on Omega.

[Salarians are far from uncommon on Omega. This one, however, is a new face around these parts. Judging by the slight hint of irritation in his voice, it's very likely that this salarian is so far not enjoying his stay here.]
Judging by what I've heard, it would seem that I'm not the only one who has no idea why they've arrived on this station. I also seem to have lost track of a small group of salarians. The locals so far have been less than helpful. If anyone has more information regarding this situation, I'd certainly like to hear it.
[he pauses for a moment and takes a quick glance around. Satisfied with whatever he finds (that being nothing), he turns his attention back to his omni-tool]
My name is Kirrahe. For the time being, the only thing I have to offer in exchange for information is my gratitude.
